Spotlight on Taryn Kincaid's Wolf's Song

Blurb: Tens years ago, visions of death and the babble of lupine voices in his head, drove lone wolf Brick Northridge to challenge his cruel and greedy pack alpha. Beaten by the alpha's thugs and banished from the pack, Brick lives a life of seclusion in a mountain cabin in the Black Hills.

Born into a rival clan of feline shifters, skinwalker Summer McCoy, in her guise as a raven, watches Brick from afar, giving him back a reason to live through her sweet songs and special gifts.

But when her clan attempts to tear them apart and threatens the pack that banished Brick so many years before, will their love be strong enough to withstand the forces bent on their destruction?

Excerpt: Summer McCoy perched in the uppermost branches of her special Ponderosa pine, in raven guise, engaging in her favorite pastime, spying on the lone wolf chopping wood below. Two days' worth of whiskers shadowed his rigid jaw. She loved when he forgot-or didn't bother-to shave. Scruffy suited him.

The sun beat down on the back of his bronzed neck and shone on his hair, the color of roasted coffee, a shade lighter than the dark shadow that charcoaled his face.

She fluffed her feathers in anticipation. Take your shirt off, Brick. She'd heard the giant werebear, Gee, call him that name a decade ago. He'd made some joke about a wall and the hardness of the male's head. But Brick hadn't laughed back then. Not ever.

He'd fascinated her from the moment he'd arrived in the glade, bruised and battered. Once she'd learned his name, she'd treasured it, taking pleasure from repeating it often. Secretly, of course. Unwrapping the syllable frequently to admire its radiance in the privacy of her tree house, the way a woman wearing pearls against her warm skin enhanced their luminosity and iridescence.

Now, as if he'd heard her silent urging, he complied with her plea, shrugging out of the plaid flannel and flinging it onto a tree stump. Her beak opened as she sucked in a breath. Sweat glistened on his torso, glazing rippling pecs and abs, shoulders broad enough to span the Badlands. A huge, incredible specimen of masculinity. Thick biceps flexed as he wielded the ax. Her heart beat faster than a hummingbird's wings. Heat licked her.

Lori Sjoberg's Grave Vengeance Blog Tour (+Giveaway)

Blurb: Handsome and haunted, he's a reaper who prefers to work alone. But Fate has other plans for him and the sassy secret agent who shot him in another life—if their pasts don't catch up with them first.

Dmitri Stavitsky has never played well with others—a Soviet KGB spy in life turned reaper after death, his work of bringing souls to the other side is best done alone. But orders from the top soon place him alongside fellow reaper Gwen Peterson, the American counter intelligence agent who took his life so many years ago.

Now, as a ghost from Gwen's past resurfaces with the power to steal reapers' souls, the two have no choice but to set aside their differences and apprehend the rogue together. But their cross-country mission soon ignites feelings Dmitri thought he was no longer capable of—for the woman who helped destroy him. With an ancient force and a small army against them, he'll have to let go of old grudges or risk his future with Fate hangs dangerously in the balance.

“What kind of assignment?”

“A retrieval.”

Okay, that didn’t sound too bad. On top of his normal duties as a reaper, he worked two or three retrievals a year. Mostly, they consisted of rogue demons, possessed witches, and the occasional poltergeist. The skills he’d mastered during his mortal lifetime as a spy made him perfectly suited to perform Fate’s dirty work. He suspected it was why they’d spared him from damnation and given him the chance to earn his salvation. But why did Samuel want Gwen tagging along? With rare exceptions, he worked alone, and even if he needed help he’d rather choose his own partner.

Anyone but her.

“It appears one of your kind has gone rogue,” Samuel said.

“What?” Disbelief marked Gwen’s voice as she leaned forward and propped her forearms against the countertop. “How is that even possible?”

Good question. Samuel lorded over his domain with an iron fist and absolute power. In all Dmitri’s years, he’d never heard of a reaper stepping out of line and surviving long enough to spread the tale. A couple years ago, one of his associates had faced damnation for breaking the rules to spare the life of his mortal woman. He would have burned for the infraction if not for the sacrifice by his lover and a rare act of mercy on Fate’s behalf.

“The particulars are irrelevant,” Samuel snapped. His polished veneer cracked along the edges, exposing a glimpse of the anger beneath. Or was it worry? With Samuel, it was hard to tell. He brushed a piece of lint from his jacket and the cool fa├žade slipped back into place. “Three weeks ago, an unsanctioned termination occurred in the Charleston area. An additional four were taken the following week. At first, I suspected a demon of some sort and ordered the leader of the local unit to investigate.” He paused as if gathering his thoughts.

“And?” Gwen prodded.

The boss pinned her with a withering glare. “Typical woman. So impatient.” He tipped his chin in Dmitri’s direction. “You could learn a thing or two from this one.”

Under normal circumstances, Dmitri would have seized the opportunity to gloat, but Samuel’s foul mood left him holding his tongue.

“As I was saying.” Samuel looked as annoyed as he sounded. “Much to my surprise, the culprit was actually a reaper.”

“Which one?” Gwen asked.

His hard gaze bored into hers. “Patrick Ziegler. I’m certain you remember him.”

The blood drained from her face. She’d been Ziegler’s mentor in the early 1980s. After his training, he’d been assigned to Eric Lazlo’s unit. The Charleston territory covered the eastern third of South Carolina, from Hilton Head to Myrtle Beach and everywhere in between. Dmitri didn’t know him very well, but his reputation was solid. The room went quiet for nearly a minute.

Dmitri finally broke the silence. “So where do we come in?”

“I need you to secure him and bring him to me.”

That didn’t make sense. Samuel always knew the exact whereabouts of every reaper under his command. He prided himself on the ability and made sure every reaper knew that no matter what you did or where you went, he could pinpoint your location in an instant. Or so they’d always been told.

“I thought you knew where we were at all times.”

“I do. Under normal circumstances.” Now Samuel looked downright uncomfortable. Again, he tugged at the cuffs of his shirt. “But it seems Mr. Ziegler has developed the ability to evade my detection.”

“What, like a cloaking device?”

“I don’t know what it is.” He was back to sounding annoyed. “All I know is that I can’t find the little bugger. That’s where your particular skill sets come to mind. Do whatever it takes to locate and secure Mr. Ziegler.”

Dmitri glanced in Gwen’s direction. On the outside, she appeared unshaken by the prospect of working together. But he’d be willing to wager she hated the idea as much as he did. Maybe more. Why she wasn’t objecting was anybody’s guess.

“I can handle this more effectively with my own crew. Allow me to bring in Adam and Martin—”

“No,” Samuel interrupted. “You are to work with Ms. Peterson. Fate specifically chose the two of you for this assignment. I expect you to work together in a manner consistent with your station.”

He squared his shoulders before meeting Samuel’s unwavering gaze. “I refuse to work with someone I cannot trust.”

Surprise flashed across Samuel’s face, only to be replaced by barely contained fury. God only knew how long it had been since a reaper openly defied him. “Figure a way,” he growled.

Samuel stepped closer. The planes of his face were taut with tension, his eyes thinned with impatience. “I don’t have all day. Either work with Ms. Peterson, or accept the consequences of your impudence. The choice is yours.”

Author Bio: Lori was a born a coal miner’s daughter. No wait, that’s not right.  Actually, she was born a carpenter’s daughter. Her mother was a housewife/homemaker/stay-at-home mom – whatever the politically correct term is these days.  Basically, she made sure Lori didn’t get into too much trouble, a task easier said than done.
Growing up the youngest of three girls, Lori never had control of the remote. (Not that she’s bitter about that. Really. Okay, maybe a little, but it’s not like she’s scarred for life or anything.) That meant a steady diet of science fiction and fantasy. Star Trek, Star Wars, Twilight Zone, Outer Limits – you name it, she watched it. It fed her imagination, and that came in handy when the hormones kicked in and she needed a creative excuse for being out past curfew.
After completing her first manuscript, she joined the Romance Writers of America and Central Florida Romance Writers. Now she exercises the analytical half of her brain at work, and the creative half writing paranormal romance. When she’s not doing either one of those, she’s usually spending time with her husband and children of the four-legged variety.

Exchange of Fire Book Tour: Guest Post with P.A. Depaul (+Giveaway)

Today, I’m taking over [Insert Clever Quip Here] to fill your stomach with a simple hearty meal that’ll stay with you so you can get lost in a book!

Okay, I admit, I may have an ulterior motive. My name is P.A. DePaul and I’m the author of the Romantic Suspense, SBG series. Exchange of Fire, SBG #1 introduces a clandestine Black Ops team working for SweetBriar Group (AKA SBG), a corporation the rest of the world believes is an environmental company.

With your stomach full and your family lauding your culinary skills, you’ll be ready to dive into a steamy, action-filled romantic suspense! So now that you’ve me found out, ready to amaze everyone with a filling meal that’s a cinch to make? Yes? Woot! Alrighty then.

I don’t have a name for this dinner. In my house I refer to it as Ground Beef and Mashed Potatoes. Not very hard to figure out why since those are the two main ingredients. You can definitely substitute ground turkey for ground beef but you’ll have to make a few adjustments to the “gravy” and seasonings to your liking.

Beef Portion ingredients:
2 pounds ground beef (I prefer the 80/20 ratio—not as dry)
1 glove of garlic (can/should be adjusted to personal taste)
½ cup chopped onion or onion powder equivalent (I’ll be honest, I’m allergic to onions so I’m guessing on this proportion based on what my mom wrote down long ago)
3 tablespoons Worchestershire Sauce (can/should be adjusted to personal taste—I usually go a little heavier)
Salt to taste
¼ flour

Mashed Potatoes Ingredients:
Ummm…potatoes. Your favorite kind to mash. (I either use red potatoes with the skins or instant from a box if I’m really in a rush)

Brown beef with onions, garlic, and Worchestershire Sauce. Drain grease. Place back in pan and over a medium heat, add salt, and flour. SLOWLY mix in water until a gravy forms. This should be a nice, wet mixture, but not soupy. Simmer for about five minutes to allow the water and flour gravy to heat (adding water as necessary).

At the same time, have your potatoes boiling (if using fresh) or whip out that box of instant and follow those instructions. If fresh potatoes, mash the potatoes to your preferred liking.

Serve by scooping the potatoes on your plate first then topping with ground beef mixture. Viola! Done. See simple!

Thank you for spending some time with me today and I hope you enjoy this meal and please feel free to adjust the proportions as needed. These are guidelines. I rarely follow the exact measurements. :)

So now that you're bursting with a good, hearty meal, I hope you'll curl up to a great book! Thank you [Insert Clever Quip Here] for having me today! Before you all run off to the store, do you have any questions for me? About the recipe? About Exchange of Fire? Or the SBG series? Writing? Whatever tickles your fancy. I'm ready!

Blurb: Faking her death was easy, living with her past is harder, but nothing is more dangerous than falling in love...

Sandra Walsh was a deadly sniper for the Sweet Briar Group, a covert agency with assassins for hire, until her last mission went horribly wrong, accidentally killing an innocent girl. Knowing she's a danger to her team, Sandra goes off the grid, becoming a Shade--an agent declared dead but secretly hiding among the living. She intends to honor her vow never to pull another trigger or have contact with the spy world again. Until she meets Casper Grady...

Grady is a former Marine with a troubled past and a debt to pay. His life mission has gone from protecting the nation to helping local children and their families. The moment he meets Sandra, he knows there's more to her than meets the eye, but he can't help but be drawn to the mysterious femme fatale. And when Sandra's past suddenly catches up with her, Grady is determined to protect her at all costs, no matter how dark and dangerous her secrets are.

As the danger increases, so does their intense attraction. But when they're forced to choose between each other and the people they've sworn to protect, their growing love might not be enough to keep them together--or alive...

In the following excerpt, we meet another player who's searching for our heroine, Wraith. At this point, we don't know if he's one of the assassins the CEO of SBG sent to kill her or not. A little background: Wraith (sniper of Delta Squad) faked her death after her last mission went horribly wrong in order to escape SBG (or more accurately its CEO). The CEO got wind that she's still alive and instead of celebrating, he sent assassins after her to rectify her still breathing status. Wraith is currently with our hero, Casper Grady, sneaking toward her apartment located in a Victorian house.

The SBG operative crept out of his hiding spot near the Range Rover. Wraith and Grady had disappeared down the side of the Victorian house, and he couldn't let them out his sight.

He palmed two of his knives and headed for the section of road barely covered by the evenly spaced street lamps. He jogged across the street, searching the side of the house, and almost collided with an ancient woman walking an equally ancient dog. Jesus, that mutt could barely lift his legs to move let alone protect his master.

His head flipped to the side, and it took everything he had to hold his instincts back and not bury his knife in the old bat. Hard to justify her as collateral damage.

She nailed him on the other ear. Loud crinkling and a nasty odor accompanied the hit.

"Peeping Tom! Whap! "Thief!"

Jesus H. Christ. Okay. Maybe not so hard to justify. He jumped out of range, just barely avoiding getting smacked again. "What are you--" His eyes bugged when he spotted her weapon. "You crazy old bat! Stop hitting me with Fido's shit bag!"
