Guest Post with Kristine Cayne and her Everything Bared Blog Tour (+Giveaway)

Today I'm happy to have Kristine Cayne on my blog today! She's celebrating the latest release in her Six-Alarm Sexy Series. She's also generously offering one lucky commenter a digital copy of Six Alarm Sexy, Volume One. Be sure to leave your email with your comment to win. :)

So, I asked Kristine, "What makes women lust after firefighters?" And here's her response.

Kristine: When Melissa asked me to write a post about firefighters and why women lusted after them, I really had to sit down and analyze my own thoughts and reactions. Why indeed.

First and foremost, firefighters are brave. They have to be to run into a burning building, to crawl into a caving tunnel, or to hang off the side of a high-rise.  But people in other professions such as soldiers and cops, are courageous as well. What makes firefighters different? For me, it’s the fact that these men and women are not acting in any special circumstances. They are not in a war zone. They don’t carry weapons. They aren’t chasing criminals or terrorists.

Saving Lives:

What they are doing is risking their own lives, almost daily, to save the lives of strangers. Yes, soldiers and cops do this too, but saving lives isn’t their primary mission. Firefighters have only one thing in mind when they enter a fire or rescue situation—get the victims out. Nothing else matters. Not who the victims are. Not how they got into their current circumstances. Nothing.

Physical Attributes:

For myself, I admire the level of fitness these men and women have to maintain in order to do their jobs. Combined, bunker gear and an SCBA tank weigh around seventy pounds. Add in temperatures in the hundreds of degrees and the weight of victims that they have to carry, often on their backs, a firefighter’s load is far from light. Sure, not all firefighters are calendar perfect, but it seems that many are. :)

Firefighters are real-life heroes, and who wouldn't want one for their very own? I know I do!

Top Ten Fire Songs

Since I couldn’t think of ten songs with “fire” in the title off the top of my head, I decided to have a little fun with this top ten list. I went on a virtual search, across the Internet and You tube. I listened to tons of songs and picked these ten. What’s your favorite “fire” song?

1)  Adam Lambert – Ring of Fire
2)  Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire
3)    Alicia Keys – Girl on Fire
4)    The Rolling Stones – Play with Fire
5)    The Doors – Light My Fire
6)    Bruce Springsteen – I’m on Fire
7)    Jerry Lee Lewis – Great Balls of Fire
8)    Stevie Ray Vaughan – Crossfire
9)    Billy Joel – We Didn’t Start the Fire
10)    Fire Woman – The Cult

Everything Bared (Six-Alarm Sexy, Book Two)
RELEASE DAY Celebration!

The Everything Bared release day has finally arrived. Welcome to the celebration! Be sure to read all the way through to win some great prizes!

Available Now!

Everything Bared is the story of Dani Harris, a firefighter on Jamie Caldwell's technical rescue team, and William Caldwell, Jamie's younger brother. Both Dani and William appear in the earlier books in the series, and the tension between this oil-and-water pair sizzles from the start.

Two polar opposites—she’s kinky, he’s uptight—discover they share a taboo desire that may destroy both their futures.

Firefighter Dani Harris has always wanted a family, but doesn’t think it’s possible because of her demanding, high-stakes career. Her sex life is as high-adrenaline as her job, and that’s just one more thing that makes her unsuitable to be a wife and mother. Her secret kink—exhibitionism—has gotten in the way of more than one relationship. Will she ever find a man who not only shares her wild fantasies, but loves her for them?

Burdened with ensuring the success of the struggling family business, William Caldwell IV needs a wife suited for a CEO—one with money and connections, who can manage his busy social life and raise their 2.5 children. He’s got everything all mapped out, but when he meets Dani, a woman who’s nothing but every kind of wrong, she taps into desires he’s only half-recognized and long-suppressed. Suddenly his carefully crafted five-year plan feels as confining as a straightjacket.

As Dani and Will’s sexual experimentation escalates, they test the limits of polite society by baring all and risking exposure—an exposure that could cost them their reputations and careers.

Because Kristine loves her readers and because she is thrilled to be releasing Everything Bared, she's giving away two prizes!

Nancy Jardine's Topaz Eyes Book Blitz!

A peculiar invitation to Heidelberg embroils Keira Drummond in the search for a mysterious collection of extraordinary jewels once owned by a Mughal Emperor; a hoard that was last known to be in the possession of Amsterdam resident, Geertje Hoogeveen, in 1910.

Who among the progeny of Geertje – hitherto unfamiliar third cousins brought together for the quest – can Keira rely on? Distrust and suspicion among them is rife.Which one is greedy, and determined enough, to hire thugs to tail her… and worse… as she travels to Vienna and Minnesota?  Can Keira even trust Teun Zeger – a Californian she is becoming very drawn to – as they pair up to unearth the jewellery? As they follow a trail of clues, will they uncover the full collection before the hired gun kills them? Details remain furtive and undisclosed until danger and death forces their exposure. And who harbours the ultimate mystery item that is even more precious than the Mughal jewels?

Greed, suspicion and murder are balanced by growing family loyalty, trust, and love.

Excerpt: "Rochester – thief in the night – 412

During the night Keira woke suddenly, though had no idea what had disturbed her. Teun wasn’t in the bed beside her and didn’t seem to be in the en suite bathroom either, since the door was open and the light was off. The door to the corridor was open, however, and dim light from the hallway window gave a soft moonlit illumination. As silently as she could, she rose from the bed, yanked on the panties and top lying discarded on the floor, and then tip-toed out into the corridor.

Ignoring the squeaks from loose floorboards, she made her way along to the staircase. There was the faintest sound coming from downstairs, as if someone closed a door down below her. What was Teun doing? The jewels? Was he doing something downstairs with them? Retracing her steps, she scurried back to Teun’s side of the bed. Feeling her way across the surface of the nightstand, she located the velvet boxes. For some strange reason a sigh of relief escaped her. Whatever he was doing didn’t include the jewels; she knew that, having made sure the jewellery was still inside both boxes, and no stray pearls having dropped on the floor.

Adam? Was it Adam who was unwell and she’d not heard him? Guilt made her embarrassed as she crept back out of the bedroom. How mercenary she’d been thinking of the jewellery before Adam’s welfare. Speeding her way down the stairs, the breath whooshed out of her as her foot left the bottom step. A muffled whimper was all she managed as someone tackled her to the floor, before a heavy body pinned her down. What the hell was happening? Face bent onto wooden floorboards, she struggled her way free, kicking her legs wildly. Before she could cry out, a hand cuffed her mouth.

“What are you doing?” Teun whispered in her ear, his arms tightly clasping her, though he did take his hand away from her mouth. He rolled over with her now on top of him, prostrate, his chest heaving into her back, his arms now a protective clutch. His breathing was so loud at her ear, it deafened.

“What the hell are you doing, Keira?”

“What am I doing?” She forgot to whisper. His hand clamped her mouth again, but not so forcibly.

She felt like a punch bag, but realized immediately Teun had thought she was someone else.

“Is Adam okay?”"

Guest post with Lacey Wolfe (+Giveaway)

Today I'm happy to welcome Lacey Wolfe to the blog. She's going to talk to us a bit about her new release Wanted: Wife. Take it away, Lacey! :)

Lacey: Thank you so much for having me on your blog today!

What would you do if you ran across a help wanted ad in the newspaper for a wife? Would you answer it? Laugh about it? Share it with a friend?

The idea of running across such an ad is so far-fetched, but it leaves you wondering, what would make you answer such an ad?

Darcy sees the ad while searching the classifieds: Wanted: Wife, $1000 weekly and all expenses paid. She’s currently on the verge of being evicted from her apartment. Things aren’t looking good. So why not inquire? See what the job entitles?

Now a days, the average person would not answer such an ad.  You’d have to wonder what the person writing the ad was thinking. Were they some sort of serial killer? How desperate would someone be to place an ad like that?

Wanted: Wife is meant to be a fun story about two people being reunited. In high school Darcy was the girl no one noticed and Steven was the star football player. Two different worlds, and yet they each secretly had a crush on one another. The story sizzles as these two try to keep things platonic, but is there ever really possible when two people want one another?

So now, tell me. What would you do if you ran across an ad in the paper where someone was requesting a wife?

Blurb: Darcy White can't believe she's answering a help wanted ad from someone looking to hire a wife, but she's hit rock bottom and is on the verge of being evicted from her apartment. When she learns that the guy she had a crush on in high school is the one looking to hire, she'd be crazy not to live out her fantasy.

Steven McDonald needs a wife, or at least a fiancée, before his grandfather retires or else he won't inherit the family business. He knows not just any woman will do, and in a desperate attempt to find a solution, he places a help wanted ad in the local paper. The day Darcy White answers it, his dreams begin to come true.

As Darcy and Steven pretend they're engaged, they make a promise to keep things platonic. But the more time they spend together, the harder it is to keep their hands off one another. With his grandfather's retirement approaching, and the possible end to their fake engagement, can Steven and Darcy admit their feelings to not only themselves but each other?

Content Warning: contains adult language and sensual love scenes

Excerpt ""I'm making coffee, want any?" Darcy called from the kitchen.

As Steven entered the kitchen he said, "I'd love a cup."

Steven leaned against the counter. Darcy poured water into the coffee maker and then scooped the coffee in. After she pressed the brew button, she turned and stared back at him.

"That wasn't so bad," he said.

She nodded. "Yeah, it was okay."

Steven laughed. "Your parents were kind." He reached his hand out toward her.

Darcy walked to him, taking his hand.

"Your dad gave us his blessing."

"I had no doubt he would. Your family is well known."

Steven wasn't sure what had come over him, maybe it was the scotch he'd shared with her dad, but he couldn't resist the beautiful woman in front of him. He tugged her to him, and her body molded against his perfectly. With his free hand, he pushed her hair behind her ear and then pressed his lips to hers. He expected resistance from her, but she opened up right away, wanting the kiss as much as he did.

Sliding his hand around her neck, he tilted her head so he could deepen the kiss. Her fingers danced around his waist and the little sensation went straight to his groin. Releasing her hand, he gripped her waist and pulled her into him. He was hard and it pressed into her and she didn't seem to mind. Damn this woman! She should be pushing away from him, reminding him they were to stay friends, but instead he kept hoping her hand would find its way lower.

Could they do this once and then pretend it never happened? His erection was telling him yes, but his brain was telling him no. He started to pull away from the kiss, but Darcy wouldn't let him.

God, he was turned on and wanted to touch her, taste her, explore her. He needed her!

"Stop, Darcy." He pushed her off him.

She stepped back, a shocked look on her face.

"I can't control myself. I want to take you to bed so bad."

"I want that too." She moved closer to him again and wrapped her arm around his neck and let her other hand dangle at his waistband. "Can't we have a little fun?"

Do it or not? Yes or no? His core ached and taunted him. Taking a deep breath, he decided to listen to the head below. He lifted Darcy up and sat her on the counter. His lips were everywhere. Her neck, collarbone. His hands were greedy as they worked the buttons on her blouse. "Stop me now, Darcy."

She gazed into his eyes and then cupped his erection through his pants. "No."

"No turning back?"

"No turning back."

Liza O'Connor's Worst Week Ever Blog Tour

Melissa: Liza has sent me a picture book. Evidently, she was tired of writing blogs and wished to draw instead.

Melissa: I can honestly say this is the oddest and most entertaining post I've ever had on my blog. By the way, your turtles look pretty ninja with their little baby pecan legs. :)

Worst Week Ever
by Liza O'Connor
New Adult, Humor, Contemporary

Blurb: What do you get when you put a hardworking, can-do middle-class young woman together with a egoistical, outrageous, billionaire boss, then throw in the worst week of disasters imaginable?

Book 1 of the 3 book series A Long Road to Love.

Trent Lancaster spends one month without his Executive Assistant, or as his drivers refer to Carrie: 'Trent's brain, left hand, and right hand'. He's had a miserable month without her at his side and to ensure it never happens again, he intends to marry his brilliant beauty. Only given all the times he's threatened to fire her, he's not sure she even likes him. However, the future of his company and his happiness depend upon him succeeding, so Trent begins a slow one week seduction that happens to coincide with Carrie's Worst Week Ever when everything that can go wrong does so in hilarious form.

(Hilarious to the reader--Carrie is not having much fun this week.)

Excerpt: "The door burst open and Trent strode in, followed by a man dressed in a black suit, carrying a tray of food. “Good, you’re finally awake. Saves me from having to throw cold water on you.”

Trent sat on her bed as he pointed to the desk. “Put her breakfast there.”

“On the one of a kind, heirloom desk, which has been in your family since 1845?” his butler asked.

“No!” Carrie yelled over him. “Let’s put it on the bed stand.” She pushed the Tiffany lamp further back to make room.

“Thank you, miss,” the butler said as he placed the silver tray on the stand and then stepped back. “Will there be anything else?”

“No,” her grumpy boss snapped. The moment the butler stepped into the hall, Trent slammed the door closed and glared at Carrie. “Do not countermand my orders to the staff. They’re impossible enough already.”

She chuckled. “I’m sure they say the same about you.” The tantalizing aroma of her food caught her attention. Unable to resist, she peeked beneath the silver lid.

Trent sat a foot away from her on the bed and sniffed at her plate. “I told the cook she’d be fired if you didn’t eat it.”

“If you actually said that, you should go downstairs and apologize. You appear to have a wonderful cook and should value her.”

He shrugged. “She’s okay. Not as good as the last one though.”

Unwrapping her fork from a swaddling of fine linen, Carrie dug into the egg-white omelet. Her eyes rolled in ecstasy. “God, this is fabulous!”

“Really?” He moved closer and stole her fork so he could try some.

She expected him to smile at first taste. Instead, he became annoyed. “Come on! Your taste buds can’t be that jaded.”

His eyes narrowed. “It’s very good. Far better than the crap she feeds me.”

Carrie shook her head and swiped the fork. If the cook prepared Trent mediocre meals, she understood why. During her first six months at Lancaster Chairs, Trent had threatened her with unemployment on a daily basis and she’d hated it. She nearly grew to hate him, would have, except his remarks always lacked sincerity, as if he’d learned them rote.

Once she’d consumed a quarter of the omelet, she offered him the fork. He smiled and shook his head. “You finish it. The cook will serve me my gruel later. Probably spit in it for good measure.”"

Review of Kary Rader's Taylor-Made Life

Blurb: They lived the life they were given; they loved the life they made.

Cheerleader Taylor Smith doesn’t want to die a virgin. Unfortunately, if the terminally-ill leukemia patient doesn't find a lover or a stem-cell match within months, her fear will become reality. When her cancer mentor is revealed to be a hottie entrepreneur from California, it seems fate might finally be on her side.

Tech-geek Gavin Taylor has everything he ever wanted, except someone to grieve for him when he's gone. With his melanoma cancer beyond the help of his riches, he agrees to participate in a cancer patient mentoring program where he's matched with a dying teen from Texas. Despite his immediate attraction, the Silicon Valley whiz intends only to provide friendship and happy memories to the beautiful, young woman who is determined to win his love.

When it's discovered that his frozen sperm and her harvested eggs could lead to a cure, Taylor's mother offers to be a surrogate. And Gavin must decide if he can risk the heart he has never given and a child he'll never know to a girl he just met.

Review: Right, I have to 'preamble' this one. So I'll just be straight up...you will cry when you read this. I know what you're thinking, "Yeah, yeah, whatever." I'm just saying, I'm not a crybag, but good Jesus, I cried all night long. Literally, I laid awake that night once I'd finished the story and wept into my pillow, wanting to change the story somehow. I finally came to the conclusion, after a whole lot of snotting and snorting, that was just the way it was supposed to end. The story as a whole would've lost its impact had it been written any other way.

I'm not a sappy person, but it was evident a lot of emotion went into this book. I imagine the author had her own bulk supply of tissues handy while writing it. I gotta hand it to her for really packing a punch that left me emotionally unstable for days. I couldn't even discuss the book for a week without tearing up. That's saying a lot for a mean ass like me.

To be honest, the blurb does a fantastic job describing precisely what the book is about, so there is hardly a reason for me to give another description of it. While reading the book, you know in the back of your head how the book might turn out, but you become so emotionally invested in the characters, you can't put it down. I honestly can say I've never been so attached to a hero and heroine as I was with Taylor and Gavin.

The writing and flow were fantastic and I really thought it was a beautifully written, heartwarming book. It captured my attention from page one, and I was regretful when it came to an end. I wanted to keep reading. I wanted there to more to this story

I'll also admit that I could never read this story again. It's definitely not because I disliked it. Quite the opposite, in fact. Actually, I loved it. It was a remarkable story that made a lasting impact on me. However, I just don't think I could take the emotional tug-of-war again. Plus, it's not a story I see myself forgetting any time soon.

All in all, you HAVE to check this book out if you can handle an emotionally-charged, sweet romance. I've warned you, be prepared to cry. Because you most definitely will. But, I really think A Taylor-Made Life will make a lasting impression on you as it has done with me.

Warnings: This title contains erotic situations, graphic language, a steamy threesome and a hot girl on girl scene, satisfying hidden desires. It is however a MF erotic romance.

Excerpt (Adult): "“Did you like my gift?” He teased my shoulders with a gentle massage.

“I’m wearing it.”

“Let me see.” He turned me around to face him.

“What?” Did he expect me to lift my dress for him?

“You know I’ll see them anyway, but I’d like to see you wearing them before they’re on the floor in pieces.”

“You can’t tear these off!” I protested.

“I’ll get you another pair.” He took a step back and crossed his arms as if waiting for a show.

“No, not these.” I flattened my palms against my front protecting the black lace under my dress.

He sighed. “Fine, I won’t ruin them, but I want to see them on you.”

Inhaling deeply, I lowered my hands, shut my eyes and slowly lifted my dress. A cool breeze blew between my thighs. For a moment, I thought I’d heard the gentle whistle of the wind. When I opened my eyes, I saw that it was Gabe, standing inches away from me.

“I wore them every day,” I whispered, letting go of my dress. “I couldn’t resist knowing your mouth had been on them.”

“I hoped you would. After tonight, you won’t need panties to remember my mouth on you.”

I sucked in a sharp breath of air before Gabe’s lips crushed mine. He wrapped his arms around me. I let go of my dress, tangling my fingers in his hair. The city sounds in the distance mixed with my pounding heart. I scraped his scalp gently with my nails, and then dragged them lower, smoothing the pads of my fingers along his hairline.

He collided with my body and the growth in his pants pushed against me. My back pressed to the railing. His heartbeat pulsed through his jugular under my fingers. I stood higher on my toes, feeling his rigid contour with my lower half before he pulled away.

Gabe’s face appeared composed, but his heavy breathing betrayed him. His eyes glistened with both desire and confusion. What was he thinking?

“No strings attached?” he asked.

“None.” I tried to unwind the invisible knots that tied me to him, but couldn’t. What if I wanted another night of passionate sex? His touch at the strip club last week had been only a temporary relief. Would tonight be it? Would this fling be over too soon?

He frowned and walked toward the cabana.

“What’s the matter, Gabe?” I followed.

A slight buzzing sounded, and Gabe checked his phone. His brow narrowed as he shut it off and stuffed it back in his pocket.

When he finally looked at me again, he said, “Maybe it’s too much to ask, but I’d like to know we’re mutually exclusive.”

My breath stilled and, in the back of my mind, alarms went off. “I don’t date.” This wasn’t up for discussion. Casey had shown me what dating was like, and I didn’t want to have anything to do with it.

“Not dating, just...enjoying.” The last word out of his mouth rolled off his tongue.

Would it be possible? To see each other when our bodily cravings peaked? All I wanted was his body for as long as possible.

I stepped forward, a grin on my face. “I’m sure I’ll enjoy this.” I slid my hand to Gabe’s crotch, curving my palm along his erection."

Connor left to join the military, and Becca stayed, waiting for her younger brother to graduate so she could live her dreams of traveling the world. But now that Connor's back as the town sheriff, Becca finds herself struggling to resist the too-handsome man who once broke her heart.

Connor loves Kortville—its quaintness keeps at bay the painful memories of Afghanistan he’s sure make him unworthy of any woman, particularly the beautiful brunette he’s always secretly dreamed of a future with. But when a scandal rocks the town, suddenly Connor and Becca must trust in each other if they want to weather this storm…and come out on the other side of it together.

Excerpt: "“Wait here, and I’ll bring out your jacket,” Becca said.

“That’s okay. You can keep—”

“No, I’ll get it,” she insisted. “I’ve already kept one jacket too many of yours.”

“What do you mean?”

She hesitated with the passenger door half open, raindrops falling on her arm. She’d assumed he remembered, or she wouldn’t have mentioned it at all. “Your letterman jacket. You never wondered or cared what happened to it?”

“I wondered,” he said softly. “Do you ever wear it?”

“Of course not.” Amidst the awful rumors, she couldn’t imagine how much more she’d have been eviscerated if she paraded around wearing Connor’s jacket.

“Do you still have it, or did you get rid of it?”

“It’s been so long I don’t remember.” In truth, she could have retrieved it as easily as the jacket she’d borrowed yesterday, but she had enough pride not to admit so.

“Well, if you find it, I assume it has more sentimental value to me than you at this point, so I’ll take it back.”

“Of course.” Not wanting to analyze why she hated the idea, she ran inside and grabbed the jacket she hadn’t formed an attachment to, then dashed out, nearly tripping down the wet front steps in her haste.

Connor rolled down his window and accepted the coat. “Careful. If you fall, I’ll have to get out of the car and check you for injuries and we’ll repeat the cycle.”

“I’ll be careful,” Becca promised. “I’m not repeating any cycle with you.”

His teasing smile faded away, and shadows clouded his no longer laughing eyes. “Wise choice.”"

Spotlight on Kaylie Newell's Taming Johnny (+Giveaway)

Blurb: He's got the temperament of a lion, and she's just the one to tame him.

Police records clerk Emma Beaumont has always played it safe, never taking many risks. Quiet, shy, and a little overweight, she's convinced herself that she's comfortable with the way her life is. That is until she lays eyes on incredibly sexy Lieutenant Johnny Street. But she's never met anyone with such a terrible attitude. He's a jerk. Everyone thinks so.

Little by little, Emma is forced to uncover a stronger, spunkier part of herself, one that isn't afraid to stand up to him. As she gets to know him, she starts seeing glimpses of a very different man. A man who has known great heartache, and as it turns out, has good reason for embracing such bitterness. Behind his sharp tongue and harsh demeanor, lies a young man who's desperately afraid of losing what's left of himself.

As Emma's intense desire for Johnny turns to love, she will have to ask herself how far she'll go to chip away at his frosty heart. And at what cost.

Content Warning: contains sensual sex and strong language.

Excerpt: ""So this is it, huh?"

Johnny could tell she was on the verge of tears.

"You're going to completely shut down, or whatever you do, and not acknowledge what happened between us."

"What's to acknowledge? I was drunk. End of story." Opening the door, he turned. "I don't know what you're hoping for, Beaumont, but I'm not it. Go find a nice accountant or something."

She pursed her lips until they practically disappeared. Her cheeks were on fire. "How dare you? How dare you treat me like that? We're not at work. I didn't have to come here, and you know it. I came here to do you a favor."

"You came here because you wanted to get laid."

She threw her hands in the air. "No wonder no one can stand you! You're unbelievable."

Maybe. But it was working. She'd leave him alone after this.

"They may not like me, but I've never pretended to be something I'm not. Unlike you."

"What's that supposed to mean?" She was breathing heavily, her breasts straining underneath the sheer pink blouse that was just a little too tight for business attire. His throat was bone dry, and all of a sudden he wanted another beer. Anything to make whatever this was go away.

"It means that innocent act you put on is a load of crap." That was a lie. He knew damned well she didn't sleep around.

Her mouth hung open. "Excuse me?"

Time to move in for the kill. He leaned closer, ignoring how she smelled, ignoring how her pulse drummed at the hollow of her throat. Ignoring everything but the overwhelming instinct to push her away. "Let's just say I know I wouldn't be the first, Beaumont, or the last."

With cat-like quickness, she slapped him across the face. Hard. "Go to hell."

Before she could turn away, he clamped onto her wrist and yanked her back around.

"You're hurting me."

"Don't ever do that again." He pulled her close. She was rigid, furious. She tried pulling free, but he just tightened his grip. Let her go, Street. Now.

A long, honey colored strand of hair had fallen over one of her eyes, which were settled on him with such hostility that he almost did let her go. Almost. The skin on the inside of her wrist slid against the pad of his fingers like silk. He yanked her even closer, hating himself for being so rough, but not knowing how to be anything else. Her chest brushed up against his, her face only inches away.

"You know what I think?" he said.

Refusing to answer, she continued looking at him like she wanted to stick a knife between his ribs.

"I don't think you want me to let you go." He looked from her eyes, to her lips, to her chest, barely able to stand still next to her. "I think you like this."

She yanked her wrist free with surprising strength, but made no move to back away. "You make me sick."

"You wish I made you sick." As fast as she'd slapped him, he cupped the back of her head and crushed his lips to hers."

Kary Rader's A Taylor-Made Life Book Blitz! (+Giveaway)

Blurb:They lived the life they were given; they loved the life they made.

Excerpt: "My blood rushed hot through my veins like a West Texas brush fire as Gavin pulled into the driveway and parked.

We were perfect together. Couldn’t he see that? When I’d asked about the matchmaker, I thought for sure he would sweep me off my feet and carry me away. He hadn’t.

He turned off the ignition and twisted in his seat to face me. “I had a great time the last three days.”

“Me, too.” I lifted my gaze to look at him, to really look at him. God, he was gorgeous, smart, fun, but also sweet and kind. Panic made me want to latch on to him and not let go. I’d rather get an IV in my eyeball than let him leave. I loved him. I always would.

He stared at back at me, his eyes misting with some emotion I couldn’t name. He was breathing heavily, too heavily. I didn’t move. I knew this game—the first one to blink loses.

Kiss me. Please kiss me.

His hand twitched. My lips parted, and I quietly gasped.

Finally, he closed his eyes, whistled out a long breath, and got out of the car.

I wasn’t about to give up yet.

He walked around and opened my door, offering his hand. I clasped it and yanked myself from the seat so quickly that I collided with his chest. He dropped my hand and jumped back like I’d burnt him.

I slapped my palm against my thigh. “What is your problem? Am I so repulsive you can’t stand to accidentally touch me?”

His face paled, and his Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed hard. “No. Of course not. It’s late. I’m sorry.”

It’s late? What kind of lame excuse was that? My shoulders sagged as he swiftly ushered me to the door. I tried to smile hopefully. “You wanna come in?”

He eyed me up and down then shook his head like he was trying to remove a bug clinging to his ear. “I better go. I have an early flight tomorrow.”

“So that’s it, then? You’re just gonna leave?” Everything inside me fell to my toes.

He smiled sympathetically. My hands fisted. Slapping the pacifying expression off his face crossed my mind.

“Hey. It won’t be that bad.” He reached out to brush my arm but let his fingers fall short. “We’ll talk on the phone, and maybe you and your Mom can come for a visit in a few weeks.”

He leaned to kiss my cheek, but I stuck my fingers over his lips. His mouth was soft and warm. Heat spread from my fingers into my arm and through my body. I pulled my hand away so I could concentrate. I was not about to let this end here. “I don’t want a kiss on the cheek, Gavin.”

“I understand.” He held out his hand for me to shake. Captain Oblivious.

I crinkled my nose and frowned. “No. You don’t understand. I want a kiss, but not on the cheek.”
He rubbed a palm across his forehead. “Taylor, we’ve gone over this.”

“No, we haven’t. You’re leaving and—let’s face it—I’ll never see you again. You know it, and I know it." My voice broke. I stood tall and continued, “You came here to mentor me, take me on a few outings, and give me happy memories. You’ve done that. But I’m asking for one last thing.” I twirled my hair and met his gaze. “I want a real kiss.”

He started shaking his head before I’d even finished. “No.”

Crud-ola! “Why not?”

“Taylor, you know the answer. I told you from the beginning. It’s not appropriate.”

He hadn’t said he didn’t want to. I glared at him and decided to pull out the big guns. “It’s one harmless kiss, Gavin, and it’s a dying girl’s wish.”

His jaw twitched. “That’s not fair, and you know it.”

“Fair? Are we talking about fair now? What’s not fair is that I’ll never get married or have children or even be in love. You’re all I get.” I waved my hand between us. “This is all I get.”

He set his jaw stubbornly, but his eyes betrayed him. “I’ve offered you what I’m willing to give.”

Tears stung my eyes. Damn it. I hated crying, but I couldn’t help it. He’d hit the nail.

“You’re no better than those doctors offering me another round of chemo, knowing it won’t do any good and would only make me weaker, sicker.” I crossed my arms over my chest. “Well, I won’t settle for less. I’m settling for too little as it is.” I swiped at my stupid tears. My pulse pounded. I was fighting with everything I had. “How many women have you been with?”

He squinted in apparent disbelief. “What kind of question is that?”

I stamped my foot. “How many?”

He almost yelled it at me. “A few.”

“Do you remember how it felt to be with them? To love them? Would you trade those memories because a few people said it wasn’t okay?”

He darted his gaze around the front yard, shifting his weight from side to side. Even in the dim light of the porch I could see his mind working through possibilities, making him uncomfortable.

“There’s no one out there in the dark to tell you it’s okay. You have to decide.” I pressed on. “What memory do you want to leave me with? What memory do you want to take? Is it really such a sickening thought? Just one kiss.”

He stared back at me with a wildness that scared me. My heart drummed a xylophone chord across my ribs.

I locked in on his gaze and stepped toward him. “Tonight you get to decide what you can live with—or without. I’m asking for one moment.”

Stopping inches from him, I absorbed the tension like a thirsty towel. Electric sparks flew between us. The only sounds were our shallow breaths.

Softly, I went in for the kill. “A kiss goodnight. Is it really too much, Gavin?”"
