Cover Reveal of Malicious Mischief by Marianne Harden (+Giveaway)

Blurb: Career chameleon, Rylie Keyes, must keep her current job. If not, the tax assessor will evict her ailing grandfather and auction off their ancestral home. When a senior she shuttles for a Bellevue, Washington retirement home winds up dead in her minibus, sticky with a half-eaten s'more, head clad in a cellophane bag, and a pocketed complaint letter accusing her of driving by Braille, her goal to keep her job hits a road bump.

The deceased was thought to be a penniless Nazi concentration camp survivor with a silly grudge against Rylie. However, the victim has enemies who will stop at nothing to keep their part in the murder a secret.

Forced to dust off the PI training she's kept hidden from her ex-detective grandfather, Rylie must align with a circus-bike-wheeling Samoan to solve the murder, all while juggling the attentions of two very hot police officers.

Excerpt: "~When the chips are down, the buffalo is empty~

Am I a flake? Sort of. But I’m trying to change. My grandfather has property tax issues, and what troubles Granddad, troubles me. Good thing I’ve held down a steady job for months. A major big deal. Not the getting a job part—I’ve had lots—but the held down aspect. Somehow, I always end up unemployed, but not today.

Today, I am Rylie Tabitha Keyes, chauffeur to the seniors at Fountain of Youth Retirement Home (FoY.)

It was dawn Sunday as I eased my employer’s van from one freeway onto another. After that, I concentrated on the wet asphalt up ahead. I didn’t want to think about my job history or our financial woes. Instead I focused on the summery sunrise over the Cascade Mountains due east. I stared at it a moment, charmed by its contrast to the more typical Bellevue, Washington gloom brooding overhead.

I should’ve been asleep, but I needed to toss trash from a fundraiser rolling around in the back of the van. Leland Rosenberg, my boss at Fountain of Youth Retirement Home, had asked me to dump the bags at his second business, Rosenberg Laboratory, as FoY’s Dumpsters were full from a recent bathroom remodel. His mood had been edgy, kind of insistent I dispose of them last night. I confess, before I could carry out this task, a minor traffic accident and an all-important overnight obligation had waylaid me. I didn’t bother to sigh over how blunders always seemed to pepper my work performance. Some things were fated to be. After all, I slogged at my job for money not joy. It isn't that I don't like working at FoY, it just isn’t my dream gig. You see, I yearned to be a private detective, a Veronica Mars 2.0. Problem is, my grandfather is against the idea. Dead set against it.

So with the stench from the trash bags mounting, I steered FoY’s van onto the off-ramp and headed toward Rosenberg Laboratory just off the freeway exit. My mind was filled with thoughts of a steamy shower, maybe a few hours of shut-eye before punching the clock at nine. I stared forward, squinted. And iced over. Up ahead. Wrong-way traveling. A panel truck advanced, peeling rubber.

Zeroed in to hit me.

I whipped the van off the road, the red, white, and blue panel truck whizzing past. I slammed on the brakes, fighting to control the wheel. I wrestled with it, panicked, my mind flashing on one fortunate thing: no seniors were in the van.

Tons of hazards burst before my eyes. I struggled to absorb them. A mangled guardrail zigzagged up ahead; its many gaps from other out-of-control vehicles big as life. Worse was the wall of giant Douglas-firs growing beyond, lower trunks scarred, limbs low and swaying.

I was going to careen through the railing.

I was going to hit the trees.

I was going to die."

South of Surrender Release Day Blitz Giveaway!

Laura: I am thrilled to welcome Chrysander Notos and Laney Summerlyn to the world today, and to welcome back the whole Anemoi family, too! Chrys and Laney are the hero and heroine of South of Surrender, the third book in my Greek-mythology inspired Hearts of the Anemoi series. The Anemoi were wind gods the Greeks associated with controlling the wind, the weather, and the seasons, and as the summer god, Chrys is the hottest of them all! Passions and conflict between the Anemoi brothers heat way, way up in South of Surrender. Need more proof? Check out this tense excerpt as well as the giveaway that follows!

Excerpt: "Aeolus stepped forward. “We are all expendable. It is not the god, but the wind he serves, that matters. So I ask each of you now. Are you prepared to stand and fight?”

The gods offered solemn agreement.

Aeolus moved to the center of the room. Anger and determination carved hard angles into his face. Thunder and lightning split the sky. “I say again. Are you prepared to stand and fight?”

A loud, fierce cheer of approval and commitment shook the room. Teddy fussed but didn’t cry, as if even his divine energy understood the threat they faced.

“Make no mistake. We are at war. We will not all come out of it alive. Sacrifices will be made.” He held up his maimed hand. “And you must understand the full extent of what you are up against. Eurus possesses the firestone ring. He has power over the winds, over each of you. This is my fault. I fully acknowledge it. And I stand ready to sacrifice myself to set this right.” Murmurs sounded from around the room.

This…this was the resignation he’d seen on Aeolus’s face. As many grievances as Chrys could voice against his father, he would fight to the last to prevent any of his family from dying. They’d lost enough. Had enough turmoil. For several lifetimes.

Aeolus continued. “Together, we are strong. Eurus cannot take us all at once. We must fight. To avenge the death of one of our own who has fallen this night. To avenge wrongs against others of our numbers in recent days, weeks, and months. To preserve and protect the human realm, as is our duty and purpose.”

Boreas pushed off the wall and stood tall. “In the name of the North Wind, I stand ready to fight.”

Zeph nodded. “In the name of the West Wind, I, too, stand ready to fight.”

“In the name of the South Wind, and in the name of vengeance for the Southeast Wind, I stand ready to kick some ass,” Chrys said. “So what’s our plan?”"

Mail Order Bride Book Blitz!

Blurb: Some people get a mail order bride. She got a mail order man.

A well-meaning friend places an ad to find a mail order husband for Sarah, the proprietress of Larkspur’s stage and mail office. Sarah, who is generally quiet and reserved, doesn't know about the ad and has no idea what to do with all the people that are showing up in her community. Before long, the town is overrun with men and mail alike. Sarah is trying to avoid some men who have accosted her on the street when she stumbles into Samuel. Through long days spent together at the stage office, some very adventurous pots of coffee and a shared faith, the two become friends.

Sarah knows that Samuel is hiding something from her, something important, but that doesn't stop her heart from leaping wildly into love. Lacking the confidence to trust her heart, Sarah wars with herself over the feelings she can no longer deny. When some of the men who have come to town show their true intentions, a shootout follows. Sarah finally gets answers to many of the questions circling through her mind. One question remains, though. Where will her mail order man go when the dust settles?

Excerpt: Right then Claudio and Cesar came through the door. Both boys chimed a “Good morning!” in Sarah’s direction as they headed straight for the coffee on the stove. Sarah saw their intent and inwardly cringed. Not only was she not sure about how many scoops of grounds she’d put in, but the coffee had been percolating much longer than normal because she got distracted with the letters.

Samuel had his back to the stove and did not see the boys as they each poured a cup of coffee. Sarah was about to warn them as Claudio, the middle boy at age sixteen, took a big swig of the hot brew while Cesar, the youngest, opted to blow on his first. Claudio’s eyes grew wide as he swallowed. “Miss Sarah, I do believe that’s the best coffee you've ever made. That’s the kind of coffee vaqueros drink!”

Samuel visibly perked up at the mention of coffee. Sarah was sure he couldn't know a vaquero was a Mexican cowboy and that they drink their camp coffee strong. If he understood what the boys were saying, he definitely wouldn't be in a hurry to get a cup of his own. Cesar finally took a drink of his coffee. Sarah could see him trying not to make a face as he swallowed the brew. “Vaquero coffee for sure, Miss Sarah. Papa would be proud.”

Sarah had barely started to warn, “Uh, Samuel…” when he took a big gulp of the coffee Claudio had poured for him. She watched the shock on his face as he first paled and then grew red. His eyes flew wide as he tried desperately to swallow the coffee. He finally ran out the front door and spit the coffee out over the edge of the stage platform.

The boys could not contain their howling laughter as Samuel walked back into the stage office, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.

The Santinis Series by Melissa Schroeder (+Giveaway)

Well I'm sure you guys had to have seen these books recently. If not, you're missing out. The Santinis Series consists of four short, sexy reads with endearing heroes that are devoted to their ladies. I felt this series was definitely worth a mention.

Plus, look at those covers! Who wouldn't want to lick the screen?

***Right, so here's my giveaway. I'm going to post the covers and blurbs for each book in the series. And if you leave me a comment with which brother you would like to read first and your email, I'll pick three random people to receive a digital copy of the brother they chose.***

Blurb: Leo Santini is a man who always has a plan. It is the way to live a well-ordered life. He never planned on dealing with the hardheaded physical therapist who is taking care of his friend. He definitely never planned on being so totally infatuated with her.

Maryanne Johnson doesn't have time for a romance—especially with a military man. Sure, Leo is drop dead sexy, but more than one man in a uniform had hurt her before. Unfortunately, she can't seem to resist him or his kisses. It doesn't help that the man is as sweet as he is sexy. Falling for him is easy, but she does her best to keep herself from admitting it to him.

Leo knows she wants to keep things simple but when a Santini is in love nothing will stop him from achieving his goal—even the hardheaded woman he loves.

Blurb: Marco is the quiet one of the four brothers which works well for his career as a Navy Seal. Living in Hawaii is a dream come true, his only probably is the infatuation he has for his landlady. He’s not sure he wants to act on his attraction until his brothers push Marco’s temper with a little harmless flirting.

Alana Kailikea is a woman who understands loss. Her entire family was killed when she was only eighteen, leaving her an heiress. A bad experience with gold digger has left her wary of most men—especially gorgeous men like Marco. She never expected him to ask her out, or that it would lead to a romance that has them burning up the sheets. Still, she tells him that an affair is all she wants.

Marco doesn’t want an affair—he wants forever. He agrees to her idea of an affair determined to use every chance she gives to convince her that they were made for each other.

Blurb: The youngest of the Santinis, Gee has always been the biggest flirt. He usually has no problem charming women. That is until he spies Kianna Jones across the room. For once in his life, he is unable to charm her into a date.

Kianna is a woman who doesn’t expect romance, especially with a sexy PJ who is five years younger than she is. But, he just won’t give up so she agrees to a date, which turns into several and eventually to the best sex of her life. Still, she isn’t ready to commit beyond their present status.

Gee isn’t happy when Kianna resists taking their relationship to the next level but he refuses to give up. If there is one thing a Santini understands is that nothing worth fighting for comes easily—and he is prepared to launch the fight of his life.

Blurb: Vince Santini considers himself the last man standing. Being the only unmarried brother is a badge of honor, until the woman had always been in his heart returns. Acting on his attraction hadn’t been an option seeing that she was his best friend’s girl, but now she is single and free for him to pursue.

Julianna Andrews is a survivor. It took her years to walk away from her abusive husband, and now all she cares about is building her business. She doesn’t have time for Vince or the temptation he represents. He is a reminder of her past. One argument leads to a heated kiss, and the passion that threatens to consume them both.

Vince knows that Jules might not be ready for happily ever after with anyone, but he is bound and determined to convince her that he can give her that—and more. This Santini is happy to be the last man standing—as long as he is HER man.

Review of Don't Bite the Bridesmaid by Tiffany Allee

Blurb: Alice Shepard needs one thing: a date for her sister's wedding. And not just any date. A hunk who will make her fiancé rue the day he left her for her best friend. Her drop-dead gorgeous neighbor fits the bill—even if he is a bit quirky and never comes out during the day—and Alice has downed just enough appletinis to ask him. But she makes it quite clear that there will be no funny business.

Spending a week on a cruise ship full of humans while sleeping close to his sexy next-door neighbor sounds like a helluva bad idea to vampire Noah Thorpe. But his friends need time to get him out of a shotgun wedding—a vampire bonding that will tie his fate to a female vampire he's never met. And Alice's offer comes at just the right time.

What could possibly go wrong?

Review: You know, it has to be said. Entangled Publishing has really been releasing some entertaining reads with beautiful covers lately. Perhaps they always have, but I'm just paying more attention to them recently. Either way, I found this book through a post with the publisher offering ARCs for honest reviews. Seeing the cover and reading the blurb, I thought, "well why the heck not?"

I won't go into too much detail about the contents of the book, but I'll just say it's not your typical vampire read. It easily grabbed my attention from the start and I actually thought this was a light, quick read. There's not a bad guy per se unless you count an ass of an ex, but the storyline and characters are fairly straightforward and to the point.

For me, this was a lighthearted read with nice doses of humor. There were a few laugh out loud moments. Especially the shampoo bottle scene. That part actually tickled me because I could imagine I might react similarly if the same had happened to me.

Okay, I have to share that little snippet.

Excerpt: " His brows drew together with worry. "Are you sure you're okay?"

Shampoo-drinker. Shampoo-drinker. Shampoo-drinker. "I'm fine. I..." Saw you drinking shampoo. Am now wondering if you're total crazypants. Think that drinking shampoo has to be really bad for you. "I'm just a little tired. It's been a while since I played volleyball." "

All in all, I thought this was a quick, cute read with quirky characters. I'm interested to read more about some of Noah and Alice's family in the books to come.

Cover Reveal for Reclaim my Heart by Donna Fasano (+Giveaway)

Blurb: Sixteen years ago, Tyne Whitlock cut all ties to her past and left town under the shameful shadow of a teenage pregnancy. Now her fifteen-year-old son is in trouble with the law and she is desperate for help. But reaching out to high-powered attorney Lucas Silver Hawk will tear open the heart-wrenching past in ways Tyne never imagined.

Forced to return to the Delaware Indian community where Lucas was raised, Tyne and Lucas are tempted by the heated passion that consumed them as teens. Tyne rediscovers all the reasons she found this man irresistible, but there are scandalous secrets waiting to be revealed, disgraceful choices made in the past that cannot be denied. Love is a powerful force that could heal them both—if the truth doesn't rip them apart.

Excerpt: " Tyne looked out the car window at the lush, green trees flanking the narrow country road.

"You know," she said, "I've been so focused today that I haven't thought about Zach. I wonder what he's doing."

Lucas glanced at the clock on the dashboard. "He's probably cleaning the fish they caught. Or stacking the firewood he collected." He grinned. "Or sitting in a hole trying to figure out how to get out."

"What?" She couldn't tell if he was serious or if he was teasing her. "What are you talking about?"

"Uncle Jasper put me in a hole once."

Tyne couldn't believe her ears. "Lucas. Come on. Don't tease me."

"I'm serious." He lifted one hand off the steering wheel. "First, he made me dig the hole. I spent a whole day with a shovel in my hands. 'Deeper,' he kept saying. 'Deeper.'  And he made me go to sleep next to it that night not knowing what the danged thing was for. 'That is for tomorrow,' was all he'd tell me before sliding into his sleeping bag."

Lucas's smile never faltered. "The next morning he told me to jump down into the hole. Which I did, no questions asked. He told me I could have breakfast as soon as I'd climbed out, and then he walked away."

She was quiet, her mind taken up with the idea of Zach out in the woods with Jasper… maybe standing in a hole he'd been forced to dig.

"Nearly three hours later and I was still standing there. Filthy from trying to scale the walls, frustrated as hell that I couldn't."

"Your tone is telling me this is a good memory," she said, "but for the life of me, I don't understand."

He laughed. "Neither did I. And that was precisely the point of why I was in the hole for hours."

She frowned.

"Little did I know, but my uncle was busy in the night. While I slept, he'd angled the sides of the hole so the opening was smaller than the base. It would have been impossible for me to climb out. It'll be impossible for Zach to climb out too."

"Lucas! You are not making me feel any better. Get to the good part, please."

"I just hope he figures it out quicker than I did," Lucas continued easily. "You see, many of those camping tasks will emphasize independence. They're about learning self-reliance. But the hole? The hole is designed to make a man realize there are times when he can't go it alone. He needs others."

Tyne nestled into the seat, crossing her arms tightly over her chest. "My son's out in the woods somewhere, digging a hole," she muttered. Her tone lowered. "Trapped in a hole." She heaved a sigh and shook her head. "Wonderful." "

Mini Q & A with Donna: What genre are you most comfortable writing?

Romance. I wrote for Harlequin for 20 years, writing sweet romance (as Donna Clayton) and women's fiction/contemporary romance (under my own name). I have self-published some of my back-list Harlequin books. The Merry-Go-Round was never published by a traditional publisher, so I guess that would be my first indie-published book. Reclaim My Heart is the second of my front-list indie-published titles.

What was your favorite part of this book to write? Which part was the hardest?

I really enjoyed writing the love scenes. In my sweet romances, all the 'spice' takes place behind closed doors. So this was very fun. And which part was hardest? The "kitchen love scene" (naughty pun intended!).

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.

I put my heart and soul into this Reclaim My Heart, and I think it shows… in the characters and in the story.

So what’s next for you as an author? Any last words?

I'm thinking of writing a book that revolves around three friends in different stages of marriage, but I'm not sure yet. I've worked very hard on Reclaim My Heart and I'm going to take a few days off. Then I'll get back to work!

I want to thank you for hosting me, and I want to thank your followers for taking the time to read about Reclaim My Heart.

Author Bio: Donna Fasano is a three time winner of the HOLT Medallion, a CataRomance Reviewers Choice Award winner for Best Single Title, a Desert Rose Golden Quill Award finalist, and a Golden Heart finalist. Guest post with author London Casey

I'm happy to have author London Casey on the blog today. She hear to tell us a bit about her new series, The Boys of DownCrash. It's a pleasure to have you here, London. Take it away, chickie.

London: When I thought about writing a romance series with some serious hot rockstar guys, I tried to tap into the music I listened to and what I expected from the guys in the band. What they looked like, how they acted, and most of all, how they were all different. I envisioned a three piece band that could rock any local bar or medium size venue. And I didn’t want them out on tour or anything. The idea of this series is to stay local, play shows, and work through personal issues. Each guy in DownCrash has issues and each guy must face them. The good news is that they don’t face these decisions alone… they’re in company of beautiful women. These women also have their own personal problems, and that’s where the series takes off and it’s where it makes its greatest sense.

In The Stronger, Safer Kind, Scarlett appears innocent but her dark past proves otherwise. And while Tripp is the lead singer and guitarist for DownCrash and certainly not afraid to act like a bad boy rockstar, he too has a dark past. That’s when fate steps in, not just bringing them together but bringing them together at a time when they both have to face their pasts. Scarlett does it in a secretive way, keeping things to herself like she’s used to. But for Tripp, he wears it all on his sleeve, and it doesn’t take long for Scarlett to realize she has a choice with Tripp… she could stay and help him… or she could take care of herself first. It doesn’t seem fair but life sometimes isn’t.

Coming soon is Torn to Pieces, the second book in The Boys of DownCrash series. This book follows drummer, Tatum, and Scarlett’s roommate, Maggie. I loved writing the book since readers already know about the band and the characters. This book jumps right into the action from page one. It was nice to write something different from the first book and with that said, the final book in trilogy will be the same.

The Boys of DownCrash may be based on music and being rockstars, but these are truly three different guys.

Blurb: All Scarlett wanted to do was thank the sexy stranger who helped her push away a drunk, grabby college boy at a bar. When that stranger identifies himself as Tripp and then takes the stage as the lead singer and guitarist for rock band, DownCrash, everything in Scarlett's life begins to change.

Her best friend, Andy, confesses his love for her and leaves her with what should be an easy decision to make... yet each time she looks in Andy's eyes, she can't help but face her secret, nightmarish past.

The only thing that makes Scarlett feel better is Tripp... but Tripp isn't just a bad boy rockstar, he's hurt. He's in pain. He tries to hide his pain in a bottle, but Scarlett believes that, perhaps, their secrets can help each other.

Friendship and love is suddenly put to the test, and Scarlett is torn... Will she choose an easy, comfortable, happy life or a life clouded with mixed signals, raw emotion, and intense romance?

Annabella Costa's The Boy Next Door Book Blitz!

Blurb: Through middle school, high school, bad dates, and an ill-advised punk phase, Tasha has always been able to count on Jason. Since the day he moved in next door, he’s gone from the weird kid in a wheelchair to Tasha’s most trusted friend. But lives change and the friends are going in different directions. When Jason and Tasha rekindle their friendship, sparks fly. After years of being a wild soul, now the ex-lead of a band turned music teacher is just looking for a relationship to last.

When none other than Jason introduces her to a man who can give her what she wants, Tasha is on the verge of throwing passion and love away just so she can forget her troubled past and settle down. But Jason isn’t ready to give her up just yet.

Excerpt: "I wasn’t too happy when my parents told me that I had to try to make friends with the crippled kid who just moved in next door.

I was eight years old. For my entire life thus far, living in a suburb of Pittsburgh, our next-door neighbor was an ornery old woman named Agnes. Why are all old people named Agnes, for some reason? Not that I’m prejudiced against old people or anything. My grandmother, Nana, lived with us and was never an ornery old woman, and probably still the best cook I’ve ever known. Anyway, Agnes failed to wake up one morning, and the house got sold off to a young family with two kids.

I was initially really psyched to find out that the family had two kids, one of whom was allegedly my age. I pictured a girl with blond pigtails who would be my best friend, and we’d make each other friendship bracelets, have sleepovers, and all that fun stuff.

But then my fantasy was crushed when I found out that my new eight-year-old neighbor was a boy. And not just a boy. A boy in a wheelchair.

His name was Jason and I saw him a few times from afar. He went to a different school than I did, and there was a special school bus that picked him up. I saw him waiting with his parents at the curb for the special bus, which was about half the length of the bus that picked me up. My parents told me it was a bus for disabled kids. When it arrived, a ramp would be lowered mechanically and Jason would wheel into it, and the driver would help him get arranged in the bus. My mother yelled at me not to stare, but how could I not stare?

When the Foxes had been living next door for a few weeks, we came over for a visit and to bring them a welcome basket.

My little sister Lydia and I were dressed up in uncomfortable pink clothes, and I was firmly instructed to play with Jason. Lydia, who was only four, was totally off the hook since the older Fox child was a 13-year-old boy.

“I don’t want to play with Jason,” I whined, as my mother did up the buttons on my dress. “He’s weird.”

“Oh, stop it,” my mother said. “He’s not weird.”

“He’s in a wheelchair,” I pointed out.

“Don’t you dare mention that,” my mother snapped.

“Why not?” spoke up my Nana, who was listening in. “I’m sure the boy knows he’s in a wheelchair. It’s not a secret, is it?”

Despite everything, I giggled. I wished my mother would let Nana come along, but they were too worried about her making a comment like that. Apparently, she lost her self-censor somewhat as she got older, although Daddy said she’d always kind of been like that.

Fifteen minutes later, my mother was shoving Lydia and me in the direction of the house next door. We rang the bell and Mrs. Fox answered, greeting us warmly. “Jill!” she cried. “I’m so glad you could make it.”

“This is for you,” my mother said, handing over the basket of fruit and muffins. “You met my husband, Gerald. And these are my daughters, Lydia and Tasha.”

“Nice to meet you, girls,” Mrs. Fox said. “My older son Randy isn’t here now, but Jason is very excited to meet you.”

My eyes met those of the boy sitting in a small, simple wheelchair several yards behind his mother. I could tell by his khaki slacks and lame sweater-vest that he too had been forced to dress up for the occasion. He looked just as miserable as I did.

“He’s eight, isn’t he?” Mom asked. “Tasha is eight as well.”

“Yes, that’s wonderful,” Mrs. Fox said. “They could play together.” She lowered her voice to a stage whisper that people a mile away could hear loud and clear: “Jason hasn’t been having an easy time making new friends.”

Yeah. What a shock.

With that sentiment, Jason and I were herded off in the direction of his bedroom, presumably for me to be his new best friend. We both went, sort of like lambs being led to the slaughter.

Once we were alone in Jason’s room, we both just sat there awkwardly, not saying anything to each other. We were too young to even know how to make polite conversation.

I tried not to stare at Jason, but it was hard not to. I mean, really hard. Why did he need a wheelchair anyway? Maybe he had some awful disease where he was dying. Maybe it was contagious! Maybe he had some contagious fatal disease and my mother had locked me alone in a room with him. She’d be so sorry when I died.

Although to be honest, Jason didn’t really look like he was dying. He looked pretty much like a normal kid, but he was sitting in a wheelchair. He had short brown hair that it looked like his mother had attempted to comb, yet he’d managed to get it messy again before our arrival. He had green eyes that were bright, even in spite of how clearly miserable he was at the moment. And then there were the freckles that were sprinkled down either side of his nose, although those disappeared years later.

I was perched gingerly on Jason’s bed. He had Star Wars blankets. Actually, I had to admit, he had some pretty cool toys.

My mother always bought me dolls, but the thing is, dolls didn’t do much. Maybe these days, dolls cry and piss their diapers or whatever, but back then, in the eighties, dolls were much less interesting. But Jason had toys that did cool stuff. He had toy cars and trucks, he had a rocket, and a huge box of Legos. But what really piqued my interest was that he had what looked like a huge box of TRANSFORMERS.

Confession time: I loved Transformers. I watched the TV show religiously every Saturday, rooting for the Autobots to defeat the evil Decepticons. But nobody would buy me any Transformers because I was a girl and obviously it’s not an appropriate toy for girls. So I had about half a dozen My Little Ponies and at least a dozen Barbie dolls, but no cars that turned into robots. It was a source of frustration for me. Every time I asked my mother, she’d say, “What do you want one of those awful toys for? You’re a girl!”

But Jason, he owned the mother lode.

“Um,” I said, working up my nerve. “Are those, um, Transformers?”

Jason brightened. “Yeah. You like Transformers?”

I nodded shyly.

To my delight, Jason grabbed the whole big box and dumped them out on his bed. He seriously had every Transformer in existence. He had Optimus Prime, of course, most of the Autobots, Megatron, the Decepticons including the cassette spies, plus a bunch of the newer ones like the Dinobots, the Insecticons, and even Devastator. I was majorly impressed. If I were a little older, I would have creamed myself or something.

“Oh my God,” I breathed. “You’re the luckiest person alive.”

Happy Release Day to Sheri Fredricks!

I'm happy to share author Sheri Fredricks's new release, Troll-y Yours. I've anticipated Aleksander's story since I met him in Remedy Maker. Mmmm can't wait to dive in.

Also, I'll have Sheri on the blog soon for a nice little sit down. Be sure to stop by then and say 'hi'.

Years of warfare and countless bedroom encounters have stolen Kempor Aleksander’s luster for life. He never expects to rediscover his zeal in the small, redheaded form of Ella the Troll, who fires his blood hotter than the deepest caverns in the forest.

But as trouble lingers in their midst—and edges ever closer—Alek and Ella spiral into troubled terrain. Turning to each other, the pair face down dangers that run impenetrably deep in their mythological world. But will the two lovers discover a passion that runs even deeper?

Review of South of Surrender by Laura Kaye

Blurb: She’s the only one who can see through his golden boy façade to the broken god within…

Chrysander Notos, Supreme God of the South Wind and Summer, is on a mission: save Eurus from his death sentence and prove his troubled brother can be redeemed. But Eurus fights back, triggering vicious summer storms that threaten the mortal realm, dangerously drain Chrys, and earn the ire of the Olympic gods who ordered Eurus dead.

Laney Summerlyn refuses to give up her grandfather’s horse farm, despite her deteriorating vision. More than ever, she needs the organized routine of her life at Summerlyn Stables, until a ferocious storm brings an impossible—and beautiful—creature crashing down from the heavens.

Injured while fighting Eurus, Chrys finds himself at the mercy of a mortal woman whose compassion and acceptance he can’t resist. As they surrender to the passion flaring between them, immortal enemies close in, forcing Chrys to choose between his brother and the only woman who’s ever loved the real him.

Review: You know, there are times I have to ask myself, "why haven't you read this author before now, Melissa?" I often feel like that once I read a book from an author I hadn't before, and the book turns out to be so kick butt.

So I suppose that gives away exactly what I thought about South of Surrender. I'm not much of a "gods and goddesses" lover, but I really got into this one. I hate that I hadn't read the first two books in the series, but that didn't deter me from following along with the storyline and characters. The author gave a sufficient amount of backstory and details so the reader didn't feel lost at all. Granted, I do need to read the first two books to get every little, minute detail, and more so, because I have a desire to read the first two books now.

The story moved along at a swift page so that I was constantly flipping the pages to see what would happen next. And I found Laney to be such a sweetheart of a heroine. She strove to be as independent as possible despite her disability, and her utter devotion to Chrys was heart-melting. I like that she made her own decisions and followed her heart where he was concerned. I think Chrys really needed that type of a woman to ensnare him and pull him from the chains of his troubled past. If she'd left everything in his hands, he might've allowed his happiness to pass him by because of his fears of unworthiness.
In my opinion, I thought this was an engaging read that grabbed my attention from the start. I loved the characters and the action scenes with the raging storms. The intimate encounters were steamy, and the happily ever after was sweet. Definitely looking forward to reading more from Laura Kaye.

Review of Lover Be Mine by Nicole Jordan

Blurb: As the wickedly seductive Wilde cousins seek true love by taking a page from history’s legendary love stories, Lord Jack Wilde plays a determined Romeo courting an enchanting Juliet.

Determined to woo Sophie and her unyielding parents, Jack is faced with the one decision he’d sworn never to make. The secret heir to a prince, Jack has spurned his royal heritage for years . . . but for Sophie he’ll risk all to turn a legacy of heartbreak into love ever after.

Review: I have to admit it's been a while since I've read a Regency lately. I read a few reviews for this book and really liked the sound of it, so I requested it from Netgalley. Ha, still loving those guys.

Although, it's not exactly new to see classic fairy tales shape a book's premise, the way the author used them in this series was fairly neat to me. I liked how the matchmaking cousin's formulated which fairy tale would find the Wildes' true loves. As for our hero and heroine in Lover Be Mine, they are matched with the fated tale of Romeo and Juliet

It wasn't hard at all for me to fall into this book from the start. I actually thought it was a cute read, and I'm anxious to read more about the Wildes. Jack and Sophie are perfect leading characters.

Jack's beginning skepticism quickly transformed into determined optimism the more he learned of Sophie and her nature. I loved that he pursued her and refused to take no as an answer. Sophie was a sweetheart, always dutiful and polite, not wishing to disappoint her parents. She definitely deserved her hero. Believe it or not, one character that really grabbed my attention was Sophie's great aunt, Eunice Pennant. The woman was so very awesome in my opinion. She loved her great niece and only wished her happiness. The characters are certainly what made this such a great read for me. I loved the meddlesome Wilde women.

All in all, I thought Lover Be Mine was a delightful read with likeable characters, passionate encounters, and a cute happily ever after. I'll definitely grab more of the Legendary Lovers Series by Nicole Jordan.

Interview with author Karolyn James

Today I'm happy to have Karolyn James here to talk a bit about her new series, Brothers of Rock.

Melissa: Can you tell the readers a bit about yourself, Karolyn?

Karolyn: Well, I’m a writer… obviously. :)

I’m seriously a very boring person, at least in my eyes.  I enjoy my excitement through both writing and reading.  I like to play around in my garden – which I hope to do soon if spring would actually come and stay this year!  As far as reading goes, I can’t pass up any and all romance.  On my bookshelf right now (I’m looking as I type), I see inspirational romance, Christian romance, romantic suspense, paranormal romance (sexy wolves! Hehe), and just normal romance.  I love it all… which makes sense why I write so much romance.  (I also keep the spicier stuff just for my Kindle)

Melissa: Ha, I can't resist sexy wolf shifters either. Now, you also write under K. James, right? Can you tell us more about that?

Karolyn: I write both romance and erotic romance.  There is a difference between the two and I want to make sure readers know exactly what they’re purchasing.  I’d hate for someone to accidentally purchase a book with too much heat in it and have them feel pushed away.  Anything I write under the Karolyn James name includes romance and erotic romance.  Under the K. James name, it’s just romance!  That way if a reader wants just romance, they know to click on the K. James name. :)

Melissa: So tell us a bit about The Brothers of Rock series? What’s the series about? How many books do you have planned?

Karolyn: Brothers of Rock follows rock band, Chasing Cross.  I tease everyone and tell them it’s a cross between a Bella Andre book and the TV show Nashville.  In all honesty though, what I wanted to do was take a group of men and show their lives off stage.  On stage, they’re ‘brothers’ in the sense of music.  Off stage, they are five different men with different dreams, hope, pain, and attitudes.  The series is slated for 5 books right now – each book follows a different band member.  So far the response has been so amazing, we’re in talks to expand the series!

Melissa: That's wonderful news! So how did you come up with your ideas for the Brothers of Rock series? Did you wake up one morning with the idea in your head?

Karolyn: I came up with one day while cooking dinner.  I started thinking about music and life and romance.  I always listen to music while I write and it made me think of concerts… I always wondered how it all happened.  How the stages were setup.  Taken down.  Moved.  I wondered how the men and women of my favorite bands traveled, lived, fell in love.  Slowly, I started building a band.  I started with lead singer, Johnnie, and went from there… it just started to grow and before I knew it dinner was burning and I was typing notes!

Melissa: Ha, I'm sure it was worth dinner burning. :) Can you share one of your favorite excerpts from All Access with us? And why is it your favorite?

Karolyn: In All Access, right when Johnnie and Jess meet, there’s a scene where Jess has no idea who Johnnie is.  Johnnie is floored because he’s not used to meeting someone without them knowing him, asking for a picture or autograph, or treating him differently.  But Jess has no clue Johnnie is the lead singer of Chasing Cross.  She thinks she’s just talking to some flirty man and Johnnie is amazed by it… it’s actually what leads them into talking and, well, much more! :)

Melissa: Sounds like a good start to a relationship to me. :) What are you working on presently, Karolyn? What the writing future hold for you?

Karolyn: I’m hard at work on the Brothers of Rock series!  Like I said, it’s definitely going to be 5 books to start.  In between that, I’m working on an erotic romance series titled, Rock Her Curves.  But more on track for romance, I have another series planned that I hope will see publication before the end of 2013… it’s a series about second chances in love.  I actually have two books already written.

Melissa: Fantastic! It was great having you here today, Karolyn. I wish you loads of success with the Brothers of Rock series! I'm looking forward to reading them.

Blurb: Jess is caught off guard when a sexy stranger buys her a cup of coffee and asks her to sit with him. He's mysterious, nice, and even though he says the right things at the right time, Jess can sense that there's something hidden about him.
As Johnnie sits across from the beautiful woman, he can't believe she doesn't recognize him. Everyone does. It comes with the territory when you're the lead singer of one of the hottest bands in the world, Chasing Cross. With one more show to go before taking a small break in touring, it feels like luck is on Johnnie's side. That is, if he can find a way to tell Jess who he is, without scaring her off.
After her best friend begs her to come to a concert, Jess finds herself standing in the middle of a crowd. The lights are off, music begins, and the crowd erupts in cheers. She doesn't know much about the band, but that's all about to change. When the lights come on, Jess can't believe her eyes. The lead singer of the band is the man from the café.
Plucked from the crowd during the show, Jess makes her way backstage. The encore may have ended on stage, but the real show is just about to begin. Johnnie's passion quickly turns to romance but the more time he and Jess spend together, the more things get complicated. Johnnie has a big decision to make about himself and the band, testing his loyalty and love for the music, and when Jess's dreams start to come true, she starts to realize that true love exists, but it's not always an easy path to take.

Blurb: Rockstars expect women to show up at their hotel room, but when a woman shows up with an infant and tells Davey he is the father, his world is turned upside down.
Anna is a teacher and part-time waitress, desperate to make enough to pay off debts left to her by an ex-boyfriend who made her life a living hell. When her boss schedules her for an extra shift, he tells her it's her job to take care of a special guest... lead guitarist of Chasing Cross, Davey. The second Anna meets eyes with Davey, she feels something she's wanted for a long time. But with someone famous? That's impossible. Besides, Davey is there with a date.
When Davey returns to the restaurant, sans date, he asks to see Anna. She doesn't understand what he would want with her. He is a man with a big heart, kind eyes, and the true power that only a real rockstar could have. Then Anna learns the truth of Davey's life, from his haunted past to his rocky present. Still, she longs to be part of his future. But when Anna's own past turns potentially deadly, life and love suddenly collide in a way that could hurt everyone and leave someone dead.

Review of Tessa Bailey's Line of Duty Series (So far..)

Line of Duty Series: Book 1

Blurb: She’s running from the law, and the law wants her bad.

The opportunity was just too damn delicious for Ginger Peet to pass up. The purse full of money she finds—$50,000 to be exact—could give her and her teen sister the new start they need. So she grabs the cash, her gothy sibling, and their life-sized statue of Dolly Parton, and blows outta Nashville in a cloud of dust. Chicago, here we come...

Turns out, Chicago has some pretty hot cops. Hot, intense, naughty-lookin’ cops like Derek Tyler, who looks like he could eat a girl up and leave her begging for more. And more. Tempting as he is, getting involved with the sexy homicide lieutenant next door poses a teensy problem for a gal who’s on the lam. But one thing is certain—Derek’s onto her, and he wants more than just a taste.

And as far as he’s concerned, possession is nine-tenths of the law.

Review: So I totally grabbed this book because one of my review buddies (Nina over at Nina's Literary Escape) recommended this one. And I'll admit I learned something new about myself (I'll get to that later.) But I have to say, the first few chapters really grabbed me and had me laughing out loud. Especially when the heroine, Ginger, and her little sister, Willa, enlightened our hero, Derek, about the identity of the statue they carried everywhere.

Now for a little self-discovery time.. Who knew dirty talk could be oh so hot? The first instance of it in the book had my eyebrows raising, then I reread the passage again and thought, "Oh.. well..yep, that'll do it!" After that, I fell in fictional love with Derek and his dirty-mouthed ways. And now we have another possessive, growly, alpha male to add to the "list". I even liked the dominance thing he had going on in the bedroom, and I don't mean whips, chains and ticklers either.

Ginger was actually a sassy heroine I could easily sympathize with, and I really loved her character. She and Derek were perfect together. Each interaction between the pair is scorching.

All in all, I thought this was a short, hot read that I have already reread twice. I've even gone so far as to buy a copy for a friend, who called an hour later to tell me that I should have given her a warning before she started reading it at work. Ha! Yep, I know. I'm an awesome friend.

Line of Duty Series: Book 2
Blurb: The greater the risk, the hotter the reward…

Homicide cop Troy Bennett had a reputation on the Chicago PD for being fearless and in control—until the night his daredevil partner is killed during a raid. From that moment on, he swears he’ll never again be responsible for the loss of a loved one. To escape his demons, Troy transfers to the NYPD, bringing him up close and personal with Ruby Elliott, a beautiful, street-savvy pool hustler.

Reckless and stubbornly independent, Ruby embodies everything Troy’s avoiding, but when she walks into O’Hanlon’s Pub and blows his carefully laid plans to hell, Troy knows he has to have her—risks be damned. But there’s a connection between Ruby’s shadowed past and a case Troy’s working involving a notorious Brooklyn felon, throwing her safety into jeopardy. Confronted with his biggest fear, will Troy push Ruby away to keep her safe or fight to keep her in his arms where she belongs?

Review: I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC from the author for this second book in the series. And it's a good thing too since I was eager to get my hands on it.

So I'll start off by saying, I'm sold on this series. Now, I'll anxiously await the next release, which I think is in July. His Risk to Take was another hot read and a good follow up to Protecting What's His. And it's safe to say that I don't believe I'll ever see a pool cue in quite the same way again.

While there may be similarities between this novella and the first (dominant, dirty talking hero, spitfire of a woman who makes a few poor decisions), I still really enjoyed this one. It's a quick, steamy well-written read. What's not to like?

In my opinion, if you're looking for fast, hot reads with possessive, alpha men who are dominant in the bedroom, look no further. With that said, I'm now eager to get my hands on book three.
